Malaysia: Industrial Designs (Amendment) Act 2013 (Act A1449)

Malaysia: The Industrial Designs (Amendment) Act 2013 (Act A1449), which came into force on July 1, 2013, makes amendments to the Industrial Designs Act 1996 (Act 552).
The major amendments include the following: the absolute novelty adopted as the registrability standard; the extension of the term of protection of a registered industrial design from 15 to 25 years; the registered industrial design as personal property; fixing 6 months as the maximum time for application for recording a change of ownership of registered industrial design; and the introduction of the Intellectual Property Official Journal.
