Seychelles: Industrial Property Act 2014 (Act No. 7 of 2014)
March 1, 2015
Seychelles: The Industrial Property Act 2014 (Act No. 7 of 2014), which entered into force on March 1, 2015, repeals the Patents Act (Chapter 156) and the Trade Marks Decree (Chapter 239).
It brings several significant changes in Seychelles’ industrial property regime to comply with the Paris Convention, the PCT and the WIPO Convention. Among others, the changes include the extension of the term of a patent from 14 to 20 years, the prolongation of the period of a trademark registration, which is now of 10 years from the filing date of the application with a renewal for 7‑year periods, and the establishment of the protection system for industrial designs, utility models and layout designs of integrated circuits.
