Mexico: General Declaration on the Protection of the Appellation of Origin 'Cacao Grijalva'

Mexico: The General Declaration on the Protection of the Appellation of Origin 'Cacao Grijalva' was promulgated by the President and published in the Official Gazette on August 29, 2016. It came into force on August 30, 2016.
The Declaration recognizes "Cacao Grijalva" as an appellation of origin protecting the green and ground roasted cocoa beans Theobroma Cacao grown in the Grijalva region, which is composed of three production subregions, called Chontalpa, Sierra y Centro.
Cocoa beans in the Grijalva region are fermented according to ancestral methods, which give the product its unique characteristics.
