France: The Law No. 2016-1321 of October 7, 2016, for a Digital Republic, which entered into force on October 9, 2016, introduces amendments to Articles L.122-5 and L.342-3 of the Legislative Part of the Intellectual Property Code.
These amendments provide for copyright exceptions, including: (i) text and data mining for non-commercial scientific research purposes, which allows the public and researchers to analyze scientific data to which they have lawful access; and (ii) freedom of panorama, limited to non-commercial uses, relating to reproduction and representation of architectural works and sculptures, permanently located in public places, made by physical persons.
