As we celebrate World Intellectual Property Day 2022 on April 26, we are delighted to announce that WIPO and the IFPMA are co-organizing a hybrid event with the support of the African Union, the Geneva Health Forum and Speak Up Africa at WIPO’s Geneva headquarters on Innovating for better health: supporting young innovators through IP.
Innovation plays a crucial role in addressing local and global challenges, and young innovators are shaping this landscape with the power of their ideas and ambitions for the future, including the future of health. With adequate support and effective use of intellectual property (IP) rights, young innovators can mobilize change and help advance science, innovation and business for improved health outcomes.
With its focus on IP and Youth: Building a Better Future, this year’s World Intellectual Property Day provides a unique opportunity to bring young innovators and policy makers together to explore how youth innovation is generating solutions to some of the world’s greatest health challenges.
The event will include two panel discussions as follows:
Panel 1: Youth and innovation: Protecting our health futures through IP will feature outstanding young innovators in health. Panelists will explore the challenges young innovators face and how mentors/supporters can help them on their journeys to improve health outcomes and achieve the Sustainable Development Goals.
Panel 2: Catalysing innovation in health: bridging the gender gap will focus on young women innovators and the particular challenges they face from a gender perspective.
At this event, WIPO will also announce the winners of the World Intellectual Property Day Youth Video Competition, and screen the winning entries.
