The latest episode of WIPO’s Mission Imagination series takes a deep dive into the transformative potential of FemTech, where technological innovation is revolutionizing women’s health. From menstrual tracking apps to cutting-edge tools for early breast cancer detection, FemTech is reshaping the landscape of healthcare delivery.
We feature three pioneering FemTech innovators, Josefa Cortes from Chile, Kemisola Bolarinwa from Nigeria and Ida Tin from Denmark, whose strategic interventions are tackling gender disparities and enhancing healthcare access.
The journey of both FemTech innovators is fueled by a profound understanding of women’s health, with medical innovations that may challenge certain cultural taboos and address systemic inequities. Josefa’s breast-shaped shower sponge and Kemisola’s “Smart Bra” promote breast health awareness, while Ida's clue app aids in understanding menstrual and reproductive health.
Despite FemTech’s potential to drive change, challenges persist, particularly in securing investment. The disparity in resources allocated to FemTech initiatives underscores the urgency of recalibrating investment priorities to fully harness the vast opportunities within the FemTech landscape.
As we celebrate International Women’s Day, let us recognize FemTech’s pivotal role in advancing global women’s health agendas. Josefa, Kemisola and Ida’s narratives serve as powerful reminders of innovation’s capacity to effect meaningful change, transcending borders and reshaping the future of healthcare delivery.
