SWISSAIR FLIGHT 111

Two senior and respected members of the Secretariat of WIPO were aboard Swissair flight SR 111 which crashed on Wednesday evening, September 2, off the coast of Canada. They were Mr. Ludwig Baeumer and Mr. Joachim Bilger, both Directors of the Organization.

There is as yet no confirmation as to their fate.

The Director General of WIPO and all the colleagues of Mr. Baeumer and Mr. Bilger reacted with deep shock and disbelief. Their prayers and unstinting support go to the loved ones and members of the family of their two friends and colleagues. They are all awaiting further news with the deepest anxiety.
