THE ASSEMBLIES OF WIPO PAY TRIBUTE TO THE CRASH VICTIMS

Today, Monday, September 7, 1998, the Member States of WIPO opened the annual meeting of their Assemblies by paying a solemn tribute to the officials of WIPO, Ludwig Baeumer and Joachim Bilger, who died in the tragedy that occurred during the night of Wednesday 2 to Thursday 3 September, and to Karine Richard of the Swiss Federal Intellectual Property Institute.

The Chair of the WIPO General Assembly, the Director General of WIPO and the Delegations of Germany and Switzerland in turn honored their memory and that of all the victims of the disaster.

All the delegates to the WIPO Assemblies, together with the officials of WIPO who were present, observed a minute of silence to express their immense pain and sorrow at this tragic happening.

Books of condolence for Ludwig Baeumer and Joachim Bilger will be open at WIPO for the whole duration of the Assemblies.
