WIPO Roundtable on Intellectual Property and Indigenous Peoples

The World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) is organizing a Roundtable on Intellectual Property and Indigenous Peoples which will be held at the headquarters of WIPO, in Geneva, on July 23 and 24, 1998.
The Roundtable is being organized in the framework of the WIPO Program and Budget for the 1998-1999 biennium, which provides inter alia for an exploration of the intellectual property needs of holders of traditional knowledge, innovations and culture.
The primary aim of the Roundtable is to exchange information and experiences concerning the intellectual property needs of holders of traditional knowledge, innovations and culture, including current approaches to, and future possibilities for, the protection of the intellectual property rights of these groups.
Participants in the Roundtable will include representatives of indigenous peoples and local communities, governments, and intergovernmental (IGOs) and non-governmental organizations (NGOs) interested in the protection of the knowledge, innovations and culture of indigenous peoples.
