Another Successful Edition of the WIPO-Kazakhstan Summer School

The third edition of the WIPO – Kazakhstan Summer School on Intellectual Property (IP) was held at the National Institute of Intellectual Property of Kazakhstan (QAZPATENT) in Astana, Kazakhstan from June 18 to 28, 2024. Over 50 participants completed the summer school, which was delivered in Russian and in a hybrid format.
The summer school was jointly organized by the WIPO Academy and QAZPATENT to give young professionals and university students an opportunity to learn more about IP from the perspective of IP office staff, WIPO officials, business experts, practicing lawyers, and patent attorneys.
Ms. Botagoz Zhakselekova, Vice Minister of Justice of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Mr. Yerbol Ospanov, QAZPATENT Director General, and Mr. Ilya Gribkov, Head of the Section for the Caucasus, Central Asia and Eastern Europe at WIPO opened the summer school program encouraging participants to obtain a deeper understanding of IP.
What did the summer school cover?
Through interactive lectures, group work, simulation exercises and discussions, the summer school program covered 32 IP topics, including:
- Copyright challenges in the digital age
- International and regional patent systems
- IP and green technology
- Trademarks and the internet
- Technology transfer and licensing
- The use of patent information
- IP and artificial intelligence
The program also included an excursion to Astana Hub, the largest international technology park for information technology (IT) startups in Central Asia.
