During the WIPO General Assemblies, the CEO of the Intellectual Property Office UK Tim Moss signed the data quality and exchange agreement with WIPO Director General Daren Tang. This agreement makes it possible to include the UK trademarks in the Global Brand Database. Currently, 71 national and regional collections, as well as the WHO INNs, the WIPO Emblems (6ter), the WIPO Appellations of Origin (Lisbon) and the WIPO trademarks (Madrid) are accessible in the database.
The trademark collection of the UK contains more than 3 million trademarks that will be soon searchable and available free of charge to users around the world in the Global Brand Database. Tim Moss said in the press release by the UK government about the agreement: “The addition of more than 3 million UK registered trademarks to WIPO’s database will help businesses grow their brands with confidence. By providing additional protection, it will reassure UK trademark holders that their mark is less likely to be infringed.”
