Language Interface, Database and Feature Improvements to WIPO Pearl
December 8, 2016
A range of improvements have just been made to WIPO Pearl, including new interface languages, more terms in the terminology database, expert validation of PCT legal terms, and a new feature added to Concept Map Search called "Concept Path Search".
Interface
The WIPO Pearl interface is now available also in Chinese and Portuguese, in addition to French, Japanese, Russian and Spanish. Users can select their language preference at the top right of the screen. Arabic, German and Korean versions are under development.
Improved database
In addition, the terminology database has been updated with 7,000 new terms and 500 new concept relations. The database now contains over 127,000 patent terms and 17,500 patent concepts, all entered and validated by WIPO-PCT language experts.
12,500 concepts are linked to other concepts in the database, and these relationships can be browsed in our Concept Map Search.
Concept Path Search
Concept Path Search is a new feature in Concept Map Search, which allows users to find the path between two concepts, showing all the related concepts in between. This is especially helpful when concept maps are large and complex. An enhancement to Concept Path Search currently under development will allow all terms found in a concept path to be sent directly to PATENTSCOPE for use in a combined keyword search.
PCT legal terms
All PCT legal terms in Arabic, Chinese, English, French, German, Japanese, Russian and Spanish have been reviewed and validated by WIPO-PCT legal experts and awarded the highest term reliability score of "4".
Collaboration with universities
Finally, terminology collaborations are underway with the following universities:
- University of Geneva, Switzerland
- Université Grenoble Alpes, France
- Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece
- University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, USA
As part of their coursework, terminology students are providing us with bi- or trilingual terminology records in specific technical fields for inclusion in WIPO Pearl following our validation. We invite universities who are interested in a terminology collaboration of this kind to contact us.
