Improvements to WIPO Pearl
October 20, 2017
Improvements have been made to WIPO Pearl, including more terms in the terminology database and a refinement of the fuzzy search in Linguistic Search.
Improved database
The terminology database has been updated with 5,000 new terms and 1,500 concept relations. The database now contains over 145,000 patent terms, all validated by WIPO-PCT language experts.
14,500 concepts (or 80%) are linked to other concepts in the database, and these relationships can be browsed in our Concept Map Search. Further relationships can be shown in unvalidated “concept clouds” produced via a machine learning algorithm.
Fuzzy Search
Fuzzy search, the default option in Linguistic Search, has been refined so as to retrieve improved results especially for compound terms.
Collaboration with universities
This release includes 250 multilingual terminology records in the fields of biological control, geothermal energy, neural psychology, oil extraction, and T lymphocytes provided by students at the University of Grenoble Alpes, France, and 95 records in the fields of industrial robotics and robotic surgery provided by students at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece, following our validation. We invite universities who are interested in a terminology collaboration of this kind to contact us.
