WIPO Pearl: Feature and database enhancements

The WIPO Pearl terminology database has been enhanced and new features added. Concept maps can now be viewed directly within the Full Record display, and the institutions at which subject field experts work are now highlighted in Linguistic Search. Subject field experts collaborate with us to validate terms in their technical field of expertise.

Collaboration with subject field experts
This release features terms validated by subject field experts at:
- Astrakhan State University, Russian Federation
- Institute of Nuclear Materials, Russian Federation
- Natural Resources Wales, United Kingdom
- PCT Legal and International Affairs Department, WIPO
Also included are 200 definitions of concepts in the Geosciences field that were specially drafted for WIPO Pearl by Natural Resources Wales, United Kingdom.
Database update
The WIPO Pearl database has been updated and now contains over 180,000 terms, all validated by WIPO-PCT language experts. In addition, over 20,000 concepts (or 88%) are linked to other concepts in the database, and these relationships can be browsed in our Concept Map Search. Further relationships can be shown in unvalidated “concept clouds” produced via a machine learning algorithm.
Collaboration with universities
This release also includes over 400 multilingual terminology records provided by students at the following universities, following our validation:
