The WIPO Pearl database has been updated and now contains over 220,000 terms, all validated by WIPO-PCT language experts. In addition, over 25,000 concepts (or 88%) are linked to other concepts in the database, and these relationships can be browsed in our Concept Map Search. Further relationships can be shown in unvalidated “concept clouds” produced via a machine learning algorithm.
This release includes 122 key concepts related to the international registration of marks, which are provided in 6 languages and comprise in total 800 terms. The terms, which can also be explored in WIPO Pearl’s concept maps, are derived from the following documents in the Madrid System: Protocol Relating to the Madrid Agreement, Regulations under the Protocol Relating to the Madrid Agreement, and Administrative Instructions for the Application of the Protocol Relating to the Madrid Agreement.
This release also includes 350 multilingual terminology records comprising over 800 terms provided by students at the following universities, following our validation (universities marked * collaborated with us for the first time):
We invite universities who are interested in a terminology collaboration of this kind to contact us.
WIPO Pearl was updated in 2020 with 147 key concepts related to the COVID-19 pandemic. These key concepts are provided in the 10 languages of the database and comprise in total 1,500 terms. The aim is to help provide consistency and clarity across different languages regarding key terminology of the COVID-19 pandemic. These COVID-19 terms are also available in a separate glossary which contains links to the Full Record in WIPO Pearl for each concept, where definitions, multilingual equivalents, contexts, and concept maps can be found. The glossary is also linked to PATENTSCOPE, allowing any patents containing these terms to be easily located. Finally, this collection of COVID-19 terms is available for download from the glossary.
