Geneva, June 28, 2023 – The World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) showcased its IP for Business programs and materials at the 13th World Chambers Congress (WCC), held from June 21 to 23, 2023, in Palexpo, Geneva. As the largest economic forum of its kind, the congress united chambers of commerce and business communities from over 100 countries, drawing more than 1,500 participants.
WIPO's presence at the event reinforced its commitment to promoting the effective use of intellectual property (IP) for the benefit of all. The organization leveraged this opportunity to engage with the business sector and its stakeholders, emphasizing the importance of IP in driving innovation and economic growth.
On the second day of the 2023 WCC, June 22nd, Mr. Daren Tang, Director General, WIPO, opened the “Innovation by and for all” session which was moderated by Mr. Marco Alemán, Assistant Director General, IP and Innovation Ecosystems Sector (IES), WIPO.
A notable outcome of WIPO's participation was the launch of the novel "IP for Entrepreneurs Network" in collaboration with the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) Centers of Entrepreneurship (CoE). This joint initiative seeks to equip National Chambers, Chambers of Commerce, and CoE Hubs with the necessary resources to guide businesses through the IP system, enabling them to effectively manage, protect, and leverage their IP assets for sustainable growth.
By joining the IP for Entrepreneurs Network, National Chambers, Chambers of Commerce, and CoE Hubs will play an active role in disseminating valuable IP information created by WIPO. This ongoing support will integrate IP into the business strategies of entrepreneurs, encouraging them to utilize the IP system effectively and highlighting the tangible benefits it offers. Ultimately, this initiative aims to empower businesses and entrepreneurs to recognize and harness their IP as a valuable asset, leading to greater success.
During the three-day WCC, WIPO Experts attended the dedicated exhibition shell to present WIPOs tools and materials, as well as the IP for Entrepreneurs Network. Chambers of commerce from all regions of the world expressed keen interest in joining the WIPO – ICC-CoE initiative to offer IP support to their beneficiaries, particularly small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).
