On December 14 and 15, 2023, almost 200 individuals from Latin America and Africa joined three online workshops hosted by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) and GLIPA to enhance their understanding of intellectual property (IP) management and explore WIPO's extensive resources for businesses which are all also available on GLIPA’s recently launched educational platform.

These workshops, titled "Introduction to Intellectual Property Management and WIPO's Tools and Resources for Businesses," were specifically designed to address the unique needs of startups and small to medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). The interactive sessions, conducted in Spanish, English, and French, provided participants with a comprehensive overview of IP fundamentals, empowering them to effectively protect and manage their intellectual assets.

A highlight of the workshops was a live demonstration of the WIPO IP Diagnostics tool, a user-friendly online resource that helps businesses evaluate their IP strategies and identify potential opportunities for improvement. Participants gained hands-on experience with the tool, learning how to assess their IP portfolios and develop tailored strategies to maximize their IP value. This was also complemented by the experience sharing from businesses who benefited from the use of this tool.

By equipping these aspiring businesses with the knowledge and tools necessary to effectively manage their IP assets, WIPO and GLIPA seeks to contribute to a more vibrant and innovative global entrepreneurial landscape.
