Release Notes

This document describes the changes made to ST.96 Schema V7_0 to produce this major release V8_0. This release is not considered to be backwardly compatible with version V7_0 or version V7_1.

Version 8_0 is the only release of ST.96 scheduled for 2024 and is being released in the second of the two available publication windows: in October 2024. One of the highlighted inclusions here is the trademark and industrial design legal status schemas. There are multiple improvements being proposed regarding the annotations of elements and attributes in Common, Patent and Geographical Indication namespaces. There are also changes being proposed to Annex I to recommend the use of MathML version 2.2 and to clarify the use of documentation for complex types.

Changes are indicated below with strikethrough font indicating the removal of text and underlined text indicating an addition.

The schemas were also assessed according to the latest version of the Schematron to ensure consistency with the ST.96 DRCs and any corresponding necessary changes are outlined below. Unless specified, the description for enumeration values which are updated will remain the same.
