Reference is made to the implementation of the above mentioned Project in Ethiopia. Since the launch of the project in 2015, all of the project objectives and concrete project outputs as outlined in the project document (CDIP/13/9) have been achieved through consistent and fruitful engagement with the National Expert Group (NEG) and other national institutions. In particular, the project has enabled and strengthened the capacity of Ethiopia to effectively utilize scientific and technical information to identify appropriate technologies which will provide long term solutions to the two specific development related issues, namely in the area of (i) Solar coffee drying and (ii) Aquaculture and thus fuel economic growth and technological development in these two key national sectors. The deliverables completed under the project in Ethiopia have included the institutionalization of the NEG; the recruitment of an international and national consultant; the identification of two development need areas; the preparation of two patent search requests and two patent search reports for the identification of relevant technologies to address the identified development need areas. In addition, following the recommendation made by the NEG, Technology Landscape Reports have been prepared by the International Expert and the National Expert in close consultation with WIPO which focused on the identification of the most relevant and nearest suitable appropriate technology for each of the identified needs. Business Plans have also been prepared by an International Consultant in close consultation with the International Expert and WIPO, detailing the implementation of the selected technologies at the national level including sustainability issues and how to ensure the generation of concrete and positive developmental impact from the utilization of the technologies in the short, medium and long term.
