According to the statistics on the use of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) Centralized Access to Search and Examination (CASE) system, it is indicated that its usage is steadily growing due to the availability of full IP5 patent examination and search reports and the enhanced user interface. Participants’ feedback at the CASE Utilization Workshop, held in Singapore in March 2017, has also echoed the same fact that usage of the system could be increased following national training workshops where all patent examiners would have an opportunity to receive hands-on training and to learn more about their experiences using work sharing tool from foreign speakers. It is obvious that further national trainings need to be organized to facilitate the use of the system by the current CASE members from the ASEAN countries, focusing on Indonesia, Malaysia and Vietnam. In the meantime, we received a request from MyIPO, Malaysia, to support their patent examiners and increase productivity on the patent examination work. Following their request, it is proposed to organize a workshop which will support further utilization of the system by MyIPO patent examiners and facilitate the use of the CASE system and build up the capacities of patent examiners and their knowledge of the utilization of the WIPO CASE system. Patent examiners from European Patent Office (EPO), Japan Patent Office (JPO), Korean Intellectual Property Office (KIPO) and United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) will be also invited as foreign speakers to share their patent examination practices, policies, and workflows as well as professional experiences in using work-sharing tools to facilitate work sharing and to provide information on how to access and retrieve their dossier information. |
