The objectives of the training course and the regional consultation are: • To enhance skills of senior officials of Caribbean intellectual property offices for better handling of trademark examination procedures, in order to put in place a harmonized and integrated regional system of examination for trademarks; • To discuss new trademark issues faced by the Caribbean offices and to provide means for responding to the new challenges; and • To produce a Trademark manual that can be used as an operational manual and also a reference point by the national IP Offices. At the end of the course, participants will be familiar with current issues relating to trademarks and will have received training on technical and procedural matters. Background and purpose of the national consultation The NIPS of Grenada was completed in 2015, the Strategy was adopted by the Cabinet of Ministers, in May 2017. The Cabinet has agreed to a briefing by Miss Simpson, on July 17 to get an understanding of the Government’s role in its implementation. The consultation with stakeholders on the NIPS of Grenada is aimed at promoting the Strategy and the recommendations put forward. Meetings are scheduled with officials of the Government of Grenada, including the Attorney General, staff of the Companies and Intellectual Property Office, the Ministry of Industry, the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Agriculture, as well as specific stakeholder sectors, such as the Small Business Association, Chamber of Commerce, educational institutions and producer groups in the agro- business. |
