BACKGROUND The project for the elaboration of the draft intellectual property (IP) policy, draft IP policy guidelines, and draft IP strategy for the Republic of Uganda, hereafter referred to as “The Document”, was relaunched in October 2016, with the engagement of Dr. Dick Kamugasha, Director, Technology Development Centre (TDC), Uganda Industrial Research Institute (UIRI), to finalize the process working closely with the National Steering Committee. As per the Terms of Reverence (see attached) the following deliverables have been realized: - The second draft of the national IP policy and guidelines was submitted to WIPO on March 15, 2017; and - The second daft of the national IP strategy was submitted to WIPO in February 2017. The document has been shared with colleagues from Copyright for their in-put. In recent discussions and exchange of e-mails with Uganda Registration Services Bureau (URSB), they confirmed that the Steering Committee had completed its work in the elaboration of The Document. Based on The Document, a small drafting group prepared the draft National IP Policy for Uganda which was now ready for presentation at the Multi-stakeholders Validation Workshop, on April 27 and 28, 2017, in Kampala. URSB has also committed to circulating The Document and the draft National IP Policy to the key stakeholders prior to the Workshop. |
