Title: Inter-Regional Workshop on Emerging Issues in Copyright and Needs for Updating Knowledge and Institutional Capacity
Description: The Work Plan of FIT/ROK Copyright 2016-2017 (July 1 2016 to June 30 2017) envisages the organization of an Inter-Regional Workshop on Emerging Issues in Copyright and Needs for Updating Knowledge and Institutional Capacity in the first half of 2017.
The workshop aims to pursue the objective of strengthening institutional capacity and knowledge by focusing on:
1. Discussion on emerging issues in the field of copyright and related rights and their impact on national copyright regimes of developing countries including the WIPO new treaties;
2. Exchange of experiences and knowledge among participating countries and with the host on the development of effective copyright infrastructures and practices to cope with the challenges posed by the digital environment for developing countries;
3. The capacity to forge public-private partnerships supportive of copyright policies and the cultural economies;
4. Opportunities for bilateral, regional, inter-regional and international cooperation including south-south cooperation among copyright offices.
In 2013 and 2014, WIPO, in cooperation with the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism (MCST), held inter-regional workshops for local experts on copyright capacity building and in 2015 the workshop was upgraded for Heads of Copyright Offices by the proposal from MCST of the Korean Government and was highly appreciated by the participating countries. Following the success, the workshop in 2017 will be organized again for the Heads of Copyright Offices.
