Title: African Women in Agriculture Research Development (AWARD) Meeting; and 2nd Program for Infrastrucure Development in Africa (PIDA) Week
Description: Following your suggestion for the Deputy Director General for the Development Sector,
Mr. Mario Matus, to meet with the delegation of the African Development Bank (AfDB) in your absence; a meeting was held on October 26, 2016, between WIPO (represented by the Deputy Director General and the Regional Bureau for Africa), and the delegation of AfDB, composed of Ms. Geraldine J. Fraser Moleketi, Vice President and Special Envoy on Gender, and Ms. Cynthia Kamikazi, Chief of Partnerships, AfDB.
Discussions focused on possible areas of cooperation between the two institutions especially on promoting enabling national and regional environments for harnessing innovative and creative potential of African Member States. The AfDB also wished to explore areas of possible collaboration in capacity building projects aimed at empowering women entrepreneurs in Africa.

As a follow up to this meeting, the AfDB has invited the Director General to a two-day Consultation meeting African Women in Agriculture Research Development (AWARD), to be held in Abidjan, Cote d’Ivoire, on November 21 and 22 November, 2016 (attached).
In a related but separate development, the NEPAD Planning and Coordination Agency has invited the Director General to participate in the 2nd PIDA week 2016, to be held in Abidjan, from November 21 to 25, 2016 (attached).
The NEPAD Agency and the AfBD are two of the key players in the African Region who are envisaged in the Bureau’s efforts in the region to enhance cooperation with key regional institutions in the delivery of WIPO technical assistance complementary to the implementation of action areas highlighted in the Dakar Declaration on IP for Africa.
