Title: WIPO Development Agenda Project: Capacity-Building in the Use of Appropriate Technology-Specific Technical and Scientific Information as a Solution for Identified Development Challenges in Tanzania – Consultation mission by Mr. George Shemdoe
Description: Reference is made to the implementation of the above mentioned project in the United Republic of Tanzania.
Significant progress has been made in the execution of the project in accordance with the envisaged delivery schedule.
The National Expert Group (NEG), which was institutionalized for the project, has identified two development need areas for which appropriate technologies are required, namely:
(i) the processing of seaweeds to extract carrageenan and (ii) the production of appropriate fish feeds for fish farming.
WIPO is currently in the process of undertaking State-of-the Art Patent Searches based on two Patent Search Requests received from the National Expert. The next step will be the preparation of two Patent Search Reports which will enable the subsequent identification of an appropriate technological solution for each of the two development needs.
In this context, in an effort to maintain and further strengthen stakeholder participation on the national level and to raise awareness of the project in different areas of the country, a consultation mission is proposed for Mr. Georges Shemdoe, National Expert, to Zanzibar on November 8 and 9, 2016.
The above consultation mission, will be financed from the Budget of the Division for Least Developed Countries (LDCs – 0035 P3548), based on the attached cost estimate.
