Description: |
In July 2015, the WIPO Arbitration and Mediation Center made available a WIPO Guide on Alternative Dispute Resolution Options for IP Offices and Courts (WIPO ADR Guide), drafted with WIPO Center support by Ms. Joyce Tan, a Singapore based WIPO Neutral, and funded under the Funds-in Trust/Republic of Korea Industrial Property (FIT/RoK-IP). The agreed activities under the FIT/RoK-IP Work Plan for 2016 include the organization of workshops to train IP and ADR practitioners through the use of the WIPO ADR Guide. The Seminar with KIPO will introduce the WIPO ADR Guide and the WIPO Center’s collaboration with various national IP offices to IP and ADR practitioners in the Republic of Korea. It will also present the current ADR activities and services undertaken by KIPO and KOCCA, and ETRI will share its experience in dispute resolution in international technology transactions. The Seoul International Dispute Resolution Center, with which the WIPO Center concluded a Memorandum of Understanding in 2013, will also support the Seminar by publicizing it to the arbitration community in the Republic of Korea. Taking advantage of our presence in Seoul, we have arranged meetings with KCC and KOCCA in order to discuss ways to enhance collaboration. The WIPO Center in 2012 concluded MoUs with KCC and KOCCA, which have been introducing a WIPO mediation option to parties to international disputes since 2014. The meetings with KIPO and ETRI will explore areas of joint efforts regarding ADR. The Seminar with KIPO will introduce the WIPO ADR Guide to local practitioners in line with the agreed activities under the FIT/RoK-IP Work Plan. It will also provide an opportunity to promote the use of WIPO ADR options by local practitioners in international technology transactions. The various meetings will serve to strengthen or explore collaborative relationships with local stakeholders in the interest of promoting WIPO ADR. Further details in the attached memorandum. |
