Description: |
BACKGROUND The above project, which was launched in 2012, is now entering its final phase. You have approved the filming of the project end results (Memorandum attached), which was carried out by WIPO’s Media and Events Section, Communication Division in Zanzibar and Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, from August 20 to 28, 2015. Attached is a progress report, from which it may be observed that over 90% of the deliverables have been achieved. The accomplishment of the remaining activities will depend on internal dynamics to Zanzibar’s clove sector stakeholders and supporting institutions. It is against this background that it is deemed timely to officially exit and close the project. Further to the consultations with the authorities, and following the country’s presidential elections held on October 25, 2015, a Meeting with the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Marketing is planned to take place on December 21 and 22, 2015, in Zanzibar. The objective is to report on WIPO’s accomplishment of the project’s deliverables and officially hand over the project to the authorities and the national clove industry stakeholders. An Exit Strategy in the management of development projects is key as it paves the way for its overall development goal to be mainstreamed in the overarching sectoral or national development planning; it provides for the sustainability of project accomplishments through the delivered targets, after the project life cycle is completed; it fosters to encourage commitment from the beneficiary institutions and stakeholders, to take full ownership of the results and sustain them way beyond the project cycle and ensure that the long-term development objective, which is to boost the clove sector’s competitiveness, and favor increased revenue streams for small holder farmers and related stakeholders, is achieved and sustained. Please find attached a draft Project Exit Plan, which has been submitted to the Zanzibar Authorities for their considerat |
