Within the context of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) and African Intellectual Property Regional Organization (ARIPO) cooperation, Mr. Séry-Koré, Director of the Regional Bureau for Africa met with Mr. dos Santos, Director General of ARIPO in October 2014, in Harare, where they discussed how to enhance the relationship and better service delivery to the member states. One of the areas agreed upon was to organize a thematic workshop on intellectual property (IP), product branding and franchising, which would coincide with the practical sessions of the 8th Edition of the MIP program, in November 2015. Mr. dos Santos greatly appreciated the first workshop of that nature which was organized for the 7th Edition of MIP program which took place in November 2014 under the theme WIPO-ARIPO Sub-Regional Training of Trainers Program on Effective Management of Intellectual Property Assets by Small and Medium-sized Enterprises. See attached mission reports. The 8th Edition of the MIP program started its residential phase on August 3, 2015, in Africa University, Mutare, Zimbabwe. They shall have their practical training at the ARIPO headquarters from November 23 to December 3, 2015. Following consultations between the Academy, Africa Bureau and ARIPO, it is proposed to organize the WIPO-ARIPO Regional Workshop: Intellectual Property (IP) and Product Branding for Business Development in Africa in Harare, on November 26 and 27, 2015. The objective of the workshop is to complement the MIP program studies with experience sharing from international and regional experts in the area of IP and product branding as well as providing concrete examples of how the IP system can be used to enhance business competiveness. In this regard, it is proposed to bring two entrepreneurs from within the region to share their experiences with the students. It is also proposed to invite five participants from the private sector from ARIPO Members States not |
