Description: |
The Government of Vanuatu has expressed interest in hosting a national activity in the field of patents. In this regard, Mrs. Merilyn Leona Temakon, Registrar, Vanuatu IP Office, Ministry of Trade, Tourism and Industry, requested by e-mail dated July 21, 2015, (see attached copy), WIPO’s assistance in the organization of a national workshop on patent law with a particular focus on patent grant procedures. The purpose of the workshop is to make an analysis of the multilateral legal framework in the field of patent, with a particular focus on patentable subject matter, patent grant procedure and practices of patent offices. The seminar would be a good occasion to provide some basic knowledge on patent law and patent grant procedure practices to the examiners of the patent office, who are in need of some training on how to deal with patent applications being filed before the Vanuatu Patent Office. The interchange of experiences with speakers coming from patent offices in the region would enrich current discussions on the choice of the best patent grant procedures to introduce in Vanuatu. The organization of this seminar is timely, since, on the one hand, none of the patent examiners has ever received training on patent examination, and on the other hand, the Vanuatu Patent Office is in the process of attending to over 190 patent applications and it has claimed the great importance that its staff acquire urgent knowledge on the processing, examination and search on patents. As a result, a one-day consultation with the national Authorities on the revision of the patent Acts of Vanuatu will follow the November 19, 2015 workshop Title: WIPO National Workshop on Patent Law: the Multilateral Legal Framework and Patent Grant Procedures Venue: Port Vila, Republic of Vanuatu Dates: November 17 and 18, 2015 Organizers: WIPO, in cooperation with the Vanuatu IP Office Program: The program covers the international legal framework in the field of patent |
