By letter dated May 29, 2015, MARQUES (the European Association of Trademark Owners) has invited WIPO to participate in its Annual Conference in Vienna, September 15 to 18, and to make presentations under one program item dedicated to WIPO (September 16) and for a Workshop on trademarks and geographical indications (September 17) (see attached letter).
Bearing in mind the specificities of the request, namely to address developments in the legal framework of the Madrid System, latest news of the Hague System and significant emerging issues in geographical indications, I would like to suggest the nomination of Ms. Marie-Paule Rizo as the WIPO representative. Ms. Rizo will cover developments in geographical indications and the SCT and will participate in the proposed workshop on trademarks and geographical indications.

Reference is made to the attached letter from MARQUES dated May 29, 2015, inviting the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) to participate in the 2015 MARQUES Annual Conference, which will be held in Vienna, September 15 to 18. Two representatives from the Brands and Designs Sector, Ms. Debbie Roenning, Director, Legal Division, Madrid Registry and Ms. Marie-Paule Rizo, Head, Design and Geographical Indication Law Section, Law and Legislative Advice Division, were nominated to attend the conference as WIPO speakers (please see enclosed the approved memorandum of June 19, 2015).
2. As in previous years, Information and Promotion Division would like to organize a WIPO information desk at the Conference. This exhibit is now a firm fixture of the MARQUES Conference and it is greatly appreciated for the direct interactions with WIPO staff. As mentioned in the e-mail from MARQUES External Relations Officer, Ms. Alessandra Romeo, the stand will be offered to WIPO on a fully complementary basis.
