The Global Challenges Division has found COHRED to be a valuable and constructive stakeholder in the field of global health. Participation in the Forum is valuable for the following reasons: 1. It is an opportunity to raise awareness of WIPO Re:Search in an geographical region where there are relatively few members (nine, in total, from Japan, Korea, India, Thailand, and Australia). 2. More specifically, IP Australia has expressed an interest in potentially continuing its financial support of the project, but with a focus on facilitating collaborations and capacity building between Australian members and researchers in the Southeast Asia region. Therefore, we will work with BIO Ventures for Global Health to identify qualified researchers in the region and use part of the approved budget to support the participation of four-to-five researchers for the purpose of recruiting their Membership in WIPO Re:Search. 3.Finally, our active participation, and contribution to conference costs, of the Forum serves to maintain our constructive relationship with this important and supportive stakeholder. 4. As part of the cost of our participation in the Forum, WIPO provide USD10,000 towards the expenses of the Forum. Such a contribution is justified given that the Forum only takes place every three years, and when we participated in 2012 we were able to generate measurable, tangible results in the form of increased membership in WIPO Re:Search from important African research institutions. We expect the same result from the Forum 2015, by targeting specific research institutions in the Asia Pacific region. Furthermore, increased participation in the Asia Pacific region relates directly to our goal of continuing financial support from IP Australia. |
