I would like to refer to the approved memorandum on the preparation of National Innovation and Intellectual Property Policy and Strategy for Uganda (copy attached). In accordance with the procedure approved, WIPO commenced the preparation of the national IP Policy and Strategy for Uganda Government represented by the Uganda Registration Services Bureau (URSB). The International Consultant as well as the National Consultant employed by WIPO for the preparation of the draft IP Policy and Strategy have completed the preparation of the first draft document. The next step is to organize a multi-stakeholders meeting in Kampala to allow for a broad based national discussion on the draft document. Following consultations between WIPO and URSB it was recommended that in order to facilitate focused and substantive national consideration of the draft, a select group comprising senior scholars, experts and officials from the country examine the draft document and make presentations of their written comments at the multi-stakeholders national meeting. Upon completion of this meeting, the National Consultant and the International Consultant will incorporate relevant recommendations emanating from the multi-stakeholders meeting to prepare the revised draft document which after undergoing necessary review, scrutiny and editing will be made available to the Government of Uganda. Following consultation with the relevant authorities of the Government of Uganda, it is proposed to organize a Multi-stakeholders Meeting on the Finalization of National Innovation and Intellectual Property (IP) Policy and Strategy for Uganda, in Kampala, on August 13 and 14, 2015.
