The objectives of the Workshop will be to:
(i) Strengthen patent examination capacities, in particular small IP authorities with few substantive examiners;
(ii) Improve the efficiency of patent prosecution by utilizing external examination results for patent family members, such as search and examination reports, claims of granted patents, or rejection rulings;
(iii) Develop the skills of patent examiners in retrieving external results from various web based resources such as the Advanced Industrial Property Network (AIPN) of the Japan Patent Office (JPO); Espacenet and Common Citation Document (CCD) of the European Patent Office (EPO); PAIR of USPTO; PATENTSCOPE, WIPO CASE; and in exploiting these results in the national legislative context;
(iv) share best practices and experiences of participating IPOs in meeting the challenges of efficient examination and build confidence in the utilization of external results.
(v) consider options for establishing a sustainable network between patent examiners of Arab patent offices for exchanging views on complex examination cases, and discuss requirements for a respective technical platform. |
