Establishment of Technology and Innovation Support Centers (TISCs) is one of the priority areas of WIPO- LDCs cooperation. During Director General’s official mission to Bangladesh, His Excellency Mr. Amir Hossain Amu, Minister, Ministry of Industries in his meeting with the Director General which took place on January 12, 2015 reaffirmed Bangladesh’s strong interests for the implementation of TISCs in the country. Accordingly, a Service Level Agreement (SLA) on Establishing and Developing Technology and Innovation Support Centers in Bangladesh was signed between WIPO and the Department of Patents, Designs and Trademarks (DPDT), Ministry of Industries on January 12, 2015 in Dhaka, Bangladesh. On the occasion, it was discussed that initially TISCs will be established in the Ministry of Industries as well as in the Dhaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI). It was also discussed that Ministry of Industries would be the overall coordinating authority in Bangladesh on TISCs. Following the signing of the SLA, consultation took place with the DPDT and DCCI in Bangladesh with a view to proceeding expeditiously to establish the TISCs. In view of the above, it is now proposed for your consideration to organize a mission to Dhaka for the establishment of the two TISCs in Ministry of Industries and DCCI. The mission would entail a two-day program, consisting of launching of the Centers, training program and project related consultations with host organizations namely Ministry of Industries and DCCI. The WIPO officials undertaking the mission would seize the opportunity to discuss and identify follow up training and other related needs for future WIPO’s support programs. Representatives from relevant government entities, universities and academic institutions, business and industries, research and development organizations will be invited for the training event.
