Reference is made to the approved memorandum on the preparation of National Innovation and Intellectual Property Policy and Strategy for Ethiopia (copy attached).
Following preparation of the draft National Innovation and IP Policy and Strategy by the International Consultant and the National Consultant employed by WIPO, necessary review of the draft was undertaken at the national level. The review entailed consideration of the draft by a Multi-Stakeholders Meeting held in Addis Abba on October 24 and 25, 2013 jointly organized by WIPO and the Ethiopian Intellectual Property Office (EIPO). At that Meeting, presentations of written comments were made by a select group of national experts.
The presentations were followed by broad based national stakeholders’ discussion. Subsequently, the draft was revised by the two consultants to incorporate the recommendations of the above referred national meeting. The next step is to organize a national meeting to discuss and finalize the revised draft document.
Following consultation between WIPO and the EIPO, it is proposed to organize a National Meeting on the Finalization of National Innovation and Intellectual Property Policy and Strategy for Ethiopia, in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, on January 26 and 27, 2015.
This mission will take place back to back with the National Meeting on the Implementation of the WIPO Development Agenda Project: Capacity-Building in the Use of Appropriate Technology-Specific Technical and Scientific Information as a Solution for Identified Development Challenges in Ethiopia, which will take place in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, on January 29 and 30, 2015. Organizing these meetings back to back is cost saving related to transport, per-diem and efficient utilization of the resources of the Organization.
The cost of this activity will be financed from the budget of the Division for Least Developed Countries (0035-P1229). A detailed cost estimate and arrangements is attached. |
