1. Patrick Zuckowicki, the director general of DISCOP Africa, has invited WIPO to organize a mentoring session at the upcoming DISCOP which will take place in in Johannesburg, South Africa, on November 5 to 7, 2014. 2. WIPO has been invited to organize and speak at a workshop on “New Platforms, Film Copyright in the Internet Age”, addressed to film producers, broadcasters and distributors which will provide an overview of international legal norms applicable to the audiovisual sector as well as practical principles and standards currently practiced in relation to rights licensing in the film industry. While this invitation provides a valuable opportunity to promote WIPO’s role as custodian of the international legal framework that supports the film business and to promote the Beijing audiovisual Treaty, the session will also provide a platform to showcase WIPO’s work in relation to the CDIP project on “Strengthening the audiovisual industry in Africa”. 3. DISCOP Africa, a private sector initiative supported by the Government of South Africa, is a highly regarded international tradeshow that brings together buyers, sellers and producers of audiovisual content seeking to do business with and across Africa. DISCOP Africa will welcome more than 2000 delegates from 1000 international companies representing pay TV online services, mobile networks, new technology providers, trade and financial associations involved with the audiovisual business in Africa, and notably from the 3 beneficiary countries of the CDIP Project, namely Burkina Faso, Senegal and Kenya. 4. It is proposed to accept the invitation. The session would be run by Ms Carole Croella and Ms Sandra Oyewole, Partner Olajide Oyewole LLP Lagos Nigeria. 5. It is also proposed to fund under the CDIP Program, the travel of Mr Adama Roamba, film producer from Burkina Faso who participated in the training session organized in Ouagadougou, in July 2014.
