The Government of the Republic of Benin, in cooperation with the United Nations Office of the High Representative for the Least Developed Countries, Landlocked Developing Countries and Small Island Developing States (UN-OHRLLS), will organize a Ministerial Conference on New Partnerships for the Development of Productive Capacities in Least Developed Countries (LDCs), in Cotonou, Benin, from July 28 to 31, 2014.
Background information documents made available by the UN-OHRLLS envisage the Benin meeting to allow for a high-level political platform for the Least Developed Countries and their development partners to discuss and make policy recommendations on leveraging development partnerships in the area of productive capacity building in LDCs.
Background note prepared by the UN-OHRLLS and the draft provisional program of the meeting are attached.
The proposed format of the meeting includes high-level inaugural ceremony and thematic sessions comprising key note presentations followed by presentations by selected panelists and subsequently interactive discussions.
The third day of the meeting envisages field visits by all participants. The meeting will be concluded by the adoption of an outcome document.
It is envisaged that during the course of the ministerial meeting, various UN Agencies and other international organizations along with the host country and development partner countries of the LDCs will organize “Side Events” in areas bearing relevance to the theme of the conference.
Proposals have been made for the participation of WIPO in the organization of side events with other organizations and to participate at roundtable discussions.
Following consultations with WIPO Coordination Office in New York which followed the preparatory meetings, the following proposals are submitted for your consideration.
