Starting from November 2004 until 2013, ten Training and Advisory Programs on Intellectual Property Rights in the Global Economy for the Least Developed Countries (LDCs) were held in Stockholm, Sweden (2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012 and 2013). The eleventh such program is to be organized in Stockholm, Sweden, from August 31 to September 19, 2014, in cooperation with the Swedish Patent and Registration Office (PRV) and the Swedish International Development Agency (Sida). The main objective of the Program is to provide a comprehensive training on Intellectual Property for senior officials from LDCs, for economic growth and development and to promote familiarity with the legislation, enforcement, administration and management aspects of intellectual property, both from a national and an international perspective. The role of intellectual property in national economic development such as the importance of patent information, the contribution of collective management society for wealth creation and the impact of piracy and counterfeiting of protected works will be discussed. The progress made in the implementation of the WIPO Istanbul Ministerial Declaration of May 2011 on WIPO Deliverables and other new initiatives of the Director General of WIPO will be discussed during the Training and Advisory Program. Participants will be selected from those qualified national candidates nominated by the Government and whose names are communicated to WIPO and PRV before June 20, 2014. A certificate will be awarded to the participants upon successful completion of the Program. (It is compulsory to attend and participate in both phases of the Program: the first phase in Stockholm and its follow-up which will be the second phase to be organized in one of the LDCs). |
