The establishment of Technology and Innovation Support Center (TISC) is a key “WIPO Deliverables” for the Least Developed Countries (LDCs). The Division for Least Developed Countries and the Innovation and Technology Support Section cooperate for the establishment of TISCs in LDCs including Bangladesh. Relevant government authorities in Bangladesh, as well as the Permanent Mission of Bangladesh in Geneva, expressed their interests to benefit from WIPO’s assistance in the establishment of TISCs in the country. Consultation has been undertaken in this respect with the Registrar of the Department of Patents, Designs and Trademarks (DPDT) and the Bangladesh Permanent Mission.
Accordingly, it is proposed for your consideration to organize a mission to Dhaka for the establishment of TISC and related network. The mission would entail a two-days meeting which would include policy discussions as well as intensive practical training on June 18 and 19, 2014. WIPO officials will also seize the occasion to undertake consultations with the relevant national institutions and organizations concerning follow up activities to be undertaken in the area of technological capacity building and establishing national institutional network related to TISCs. Representatives from relevant government entities, universities and academic institutions, business and industries, research and development (R&D) organizations will be invited to this event. A provisional program is attached.
This mission will take place back to back with the Multi-Stakeholders Meeting on the Finalization of National Innovation and Intellectual Property (IP) Policy and Strategy for Bangladesh and Consultation on the Implementation of Appropriate Technology Project for Bangladesh, which will take place in Dhaka on June 16, 17 and 18, 2014. Organizing these meetings back to back is cost saving related to transport, per-diem and efficient utilization of expenses.
