1. The Cambodian Government requested WIPO’s legislative and policy assistance to implementing on trade secrets and undisclosed information. This effort is related to commitments that the Cambodian Government made when acceding to the World Trade Organization. The Authorities intend to enact legislation on these topics by the end of 2019.
2. In December 2018, we held a study visit for delegates from Cambodia on these topics. The delegation provided us with a draft prepared by a consultant they hired June. The Legislative and Policy Advice Section followed up with written comments.
3. To help finalize their legislative process, the Authorities have requested a Workshop and Consultation. These events are particularly important, as the potential legislation will affect each of the invited ministries in a substantial way. The Workshop and Consultation will provide an opportunity for these ministries to discuss practical aspects of the proposed legislative options, to determine what will work best for each of their operations. The Cambodian Authorities have requested that Workshop take place on September 10, 2019 in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. The Consultation will take place the following day, on September 11, 2019 at the Ministry of Commerce.
It is suggested to conduct the Workshop as described below:
1. Title: WIPO Workshop on trade secrets and undisclosed information for the Kingdom of Cambodia
2. Purpose of event: The objectives of the workshop are to educate the authorities about the legislative options in the pending legislative update on trade secrets and undisclosed information.
3. Venue: Phnom Penh, Cambodia
4. Date: September 10, 2019
