Title: Bilateral Project on Appropriate Technology for Uganda – Technical Consultations by the International Expert
Description: Reference is made to the implementation of the Bilateral Project on Appropriate Technology in Uganda by the Division for Least Developed Countries.
As per the project document for the Bilateral Project (please find attached), the assignment of a national and international expert for the project has been completed by WIPO. The National Expert Group (NEG) which has been established is currently in the process of identifying two national development needs for which appropriate technologies are required.
Thereafter, the next step for project implementation will be the submission of two patent search requests to WIPO on the basis of development needs identification and analysis.
In this context, it is proposed for the International Expert, Dr. Doug Sanyahumbi, to travel to Kampala, Uganda from May 1 to 2, 2019, in order to undertake consultations with relevant stakeholders of the project. In particular, Dr. Sanyahumbi will meet and engage with Uganda Registration Services Bureau (URSB), the national expert for the project (Dr. Charles Francis Mugoya), and members of the NEG.
The primary objective of these technical consultations will be for the International Expert to get acquainted with the relevant national stakeholders of the project, finalize a more detailed project plan with the NEG, and thereby facilitate the finalization of the development needs identification process. Substantively, Dr. Sanyahumbi will also provide technical expertise and knowledge on issues relating to technology transfer including on the management and utilization of technical and scientific information for the achievement of development objectives.
This proposed travel is within the framework of Dr. Sanyahumbi’s ICS contract with WIPO (please find attached).
