Back-to-back Meetings TANZANIA and ETHIOPIA 1) ETHIOPIA: Technical Needs Analysis for the Technology and Innovation Institute “Human Resource Skills Development for the Utilization of Scientific and Technical Information for the Promotion of Invention and Innovation”, Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, May 27 to 29, 2019 Reference is made to the letter dated November 23, 2018 (Ref. No. 1/8-1237/11) from H.E. Dr. Getahun Mekuria Kuma, Minister for Innovation and Technology, Government of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, requesting WIPO for technical capacity building in the area of innovation and technology for the operationalization of the newly created Technology and Innovation Institute. Reference is also made to the subsequent positive reply by WIPO to this request for technical support. In view of the above and following consultations with the relevant authorities at the Technology and Innovation Institute, it is proposed for a three day technical needs assessment mission to be organized in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, from May 27 to 29, 2019. The primary objective of this mission would be to assess the technical needs and requirements of the Technology and Innovation Institute including those related to the achievement of national development needs and priorities. In this context, the role of technical and scientific information and its management, administration and utilization for the promotion of national development goals and objective will be an important topic for the needs assessment exercise. It is anticipated that the completion of the needs analysis and assessment will also enable the provision of targeted and specific technical assistance by WIPO in the long term and the establishment of future joint collaborative endeavors with the Technology and Innovation Institute. This activity is included in the approved work plan of the Division for Least Developed Countries and accordingly the cost of its implementation will be financed from |
