Every year, the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) has been invited to participate, in the annual meeting of the IP5 Statistics Working Group hosted this year by the Japan Intellectual Property Office (JPO) on July 31 and August 1, 2019.
The meeting will cover a broad range of issues relating to patent statistics, including statistical definitions, statistics reporting, data exchanges between offices, economic studies conducted by offices and methodologies of forecasting patent applications.
WIPO has participated in meetings of this Working Group since its inception and these meetings have proved valuable in placing WIPO at the forefront of statistical data development and in ensuring the cooperation of the major IP offices in WIPO’s own statistical work.
In light of the centrality of this meeting to our statistical work, it is proposed that two participants from the Economics and Statistics Division (either Messrs. Khan, Zhou, Lamb or Le Feuvre), attend the meeting.
Our participation in the Working Group meeting is included in the workplan for Program 16 (0049-W_10182). The cost estimate to undertake this mission is attached herewith. |
