Reference is made to the invitation (see attached letter) from Huawei Technologies, inviting a Hague expert of the WIPO Office in China (WOC) to visit their company to exchange views and conduct training on the effective use of the Hague System. Huawei Technologies expressed that they would like to maximize their design protection abroad and be the first batch of Chinese enterprises to file the International applications under the Hague System through the “backdoor registration”. The company has been exploring the process of accurately submitting applications through the Hague System. Considering the strengthening of Huawei Technologies and their huge demand in protecting designs overseas, it is very possible that Huawei Technologies will also become a leading user of the Hague System, in addition to being already a leading PCT user. In view of the above, it is suggested that WOC invite WOC retiree Mr. Lu Guoliang to undertake the visit to Huawei Technologies, as an invited speaker, to give a special training on the filing and management of applications under the Hague System, on November 21, 2018. Ms. Yin Wu, Examiner, Operations Service, The Hague Registry, will be on annual leave in China during that time. Ms. Wu has agreed to undertake this mission together with Mr. Lu at the end of her annual leave. The presence of Ms. Wu would be extremely useful as she will be in a position to provide detailed information and training on all aspects of the Hague System. Huawei will cover the local travel costs for Ms. Wu. Some of Ms. Wu’s annual leave will require conversion to official absence as appropriate. |
