Japan Funds-in-Trust for Industrial Property for Africa and Least Developed Countries (FIT Japan) was established in 2008 and marks its 10th anniversary this year. Commemorating this, holding an event during the WIPO General Assemblies was proposed to review the activities implemented during the last ten years and enhance the collaboration with African countries for the future activities.
After the discussion between the Japan Patent Office (JPO), the donor of FIT Japan, and WIPO Protocol and Event Management Section, it is planned to have the event starting at 18:00 on September 25, 2018, after the General Assemblies sessions is finished.
As a result of discussion between Regional Bureau for Africa and the JPO, it was proposed to have a preparatory mission to WIPO headquarters so that the person in charge at the JPO can see the venue, check necessary equipment and discuss the arrangement of event with WIPO staff. The duration of mission will be from September 3 and 4, 2018. Other parties concerned (e.g. a producer of the event and designer team) will also join the preparatory mission.
While the general memorandum for this event will be circulated later, this memorandum is written ahead of the general memorandum so that the JPO official can finish their internal procedure for this mission by their internal deadline, which is one month before the date of his travel.
