This short-term fellowship program is included in the Work Plan of FIT Japan for Africa and LDCs for the fiscal year 2018-2019 implementing Short-term Fellowship in Japan for MIP Student. Program Description and Purpose One graduate student from the Master’s degree in Intellectual Property (IP) program offered by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), the African Regional Intellectual Property Organization (ARIPO) and Africa University (AU) will be further trained for a period of two weeks in a patent or trademark attorney office (hereinafter referred to as the “Office”) in Japan in order to gain practical experience in IP-related matters. The envisioned result is for classroom learning to be complemented with actual work experience so the graduate can acquire not just knowledge but also skills and insights of the real world of IP. Every attempt will be made to match the interests of the trainee with the core activities of the Office hosting the student. An announcement was made through AU, Zimbabwe and AU provided two candidates with their CVs, application forms and copies of their passports. WIPO Japan Office (WJO) will seek an Office and selects the trainee together with the Office from the candidates. The selected trainee as well as the Office will be notified and start discussions in order to arrange the training program. Regional Bureau for Africa will coordinate travel arrangements for the selected trainee, while WJO will coordinate with the Offices and provide assistance to the trainee during the stay in Tokyo. |
