The Government of Peru has requested WIPO to organize a Workshop on Making a living from Publishing in the Digital World during the Lima book fair in July 2018. WIPO has positively responded to the request of the Intellectual Property Office of Peru (INEDCOPI) – see attached letter by the Director General of WIPO to the President of INDECOPI of February 15, 2018.
In relation to this it is hereby suggested to organize the following specific activities:
1. Workshop on Managing Copyright in the Publishing Industry in the Digital Environment – July 25, 2018
The workshop will provide an overview of the relevant copyright issues which publishers should be aware of in the digital environment and present the most recent WIPO publication “From Paper to Platform” which is available in the Spanish language. This activity will target small and medium sized publishers from Peru and other Latin American countries participating in the book fair. It will seek to upgrade professional skills and suggest a forum for interactive discussions and exchanges of best practices.
Around 200 participants are expected to attend this activity.
2. Promotion of the Marrakesh Treaty – July 25, 2018
This will be organized with the support of the IPA and INDECOPI and will seek to assist Peru in the implementation of the Marrakesh Treaty and encourage other participating countries to follow suit.
3. Roundtable on the Publishers Circle – July 26, 2018
The Roundtable will be organized with a group of selected key publishers represented at the book fair, with the participation of IPA, the Peruvian Publishers Association and INDECOPI. It will seek to promote the Charter of the Publishers Circle, encourage parties to sign it and discuss the national and regional perspectives of its implementation.
The International Publishers Association, the Government of Peru and other strategic partners will be invited to participate and contribute to these activities.
