Description: |
The project aims at supporting the Tabaka rural community by increasing the value of the Kisii soapstone through strategic use of the intellectual property system and a new business model that would generate a larger market share for the artists and increased returns for the community and the society.
The Government of Kenya endorsed the project (letter attached for ease of reference) and requested WIPO’s support. Subsequently several exchanges between the Africa Bureau, the Weitz Center, and the Kenya Institute for Industrial Property (KIPI) took place in order to determine the best modus operandi to consider given the multi-faceted nature of the project.
