Communication by the Italian Republic Regarding Changes in the Text Concerning the Kinds of Microorganisms Accepted for Deposit and the Schedule of Fees Charged by the Advanced Biotechnology Center (ABC)

The Director General of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) presents his compliments to the Minister for Foreign Affairs and has the honor to notify him of the receipt, on August 10, 2004, of the communication of the Italian Republic, dated August 4, 2004, regarding changes in the text concerning the kinds of microorganisms accepted for deposit and the schedule of fees charged by the Advanced Biotechnology Center (ABC), an international depositary authority under the Budapest Treaty on the International Recognition of the Deposit of Microorganisms for the Purposes of Patent Procedure, done at Budapest on April 28, 1977, and amended on September 26, 1980 (see Budapest Notification No. 144 of February 14, 1996).

Referring to the Budapest Treaty on the International Recognition of the Deposit of Microorganisms for the Purposes of Patent Procedure, we are pleased to notify you the enclosed list of microorganisms accepted for deposit by the Advanced Biotechnology Center (ABC), Interlab Cell Line Collection (ICLC) of Genoa.

KINDS OF MICROORGANISMS THAT MAY BE DEPOSITED

Human and animal cell lines and hybridomas, provided that they can be stored in liquid nitrogen vapors, without any significant loss of viability. The genetically modified cell lines are also accepted if they belong to category 1 of genetically modified microorganisms, and if they have been registered by the depositor. No deposits are accepted of cell lines and hybridomas beyond category of containment 2.

The ICLC reserves the right to refuse any material whose manipulation represents an unacceptable risk or technical difficulty. The ICLC requests that a form on the cell line/hybridoma characteristics be filled in on deposit.
