Locarno Agreement Establishing an International Classification for Industrial Designs

Accession by the Republic of Cuba

The Director General of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) presents his compliments to the Minister for Foreign Affairs and has the honor to notify him of the deposit by the Government of the Republic of Cuba, on July 9, 1998, of its instrument of accession to the Locarno Agreement Establishing an International Classification for Industrial Designs, signed at Locarno on October 8, 1968, as amended on September 28, 1979.

The instrument of accession contains the following declaration:

"The Government of the Republic of Cuba deplores that, even after the adoption by the General Assembly of the United Nations of Resolution 1514 (XV) setting forth the Declaration on the granting of independence to colonial countries and peoples, a text of the nature such as that referred to in Article 13 of the said Locarno Agreement, namely Article 24 of the Stockholm Act (1967) of the Paris Convention for the Protection of Industrial Property, had been adopted." (Translation)

The said Agreement will enter into force, with respect to the Republic of Cuba, on October 9, 1998.
